Lagun articulating table

Hi everyone. Just thought I would post the results of my attempt to make the 13 RDB a bit more user friendly. We tend to leave the dinette bed down as our queen bed. As such, we didn't have a table for the computer, lunch, food prep, banana grams, cards, etc. We usually use the outside portable kitchen, however, on a cold or rainy day we needed another flex space.

Enter new bench seat and corner dinette..with Lagun aluminum articulating arm w/table top. (usually used in marine applications, however some Northstar campers are using them).

The space between our midship bath and the sofa bed was originally open extra floor space. I found some stainless table legs on sale at Home Depot and made a portable bench for the corner. The cushion is actually a spare from the dinette that is not needed when in the dinette is in the down bed position.

We wanted to keep the storage space underneath the new bench due to our limited space however I guess I could have made a bulkhead. My goal was to keep a storage area for the extra water in the blue jug for when I dry camp while hunting.

The articulating arm is all high grade aluminum and dissembles when not in use. I can take the table top and arm apart and store them behind the bench or under the sofa bed. The table top is a cheap plastic Walmart folding table, which I robbed the top from. It's light and won't scratch the adzel up when stored.

Both the Lagun arm and the table top can independently swivel 360 degrees which gives us many combinations for food prep next to the counter or we can move it further into the corner if someone wants to lie down and have a side table. The arm also slides up and down for an adjustable height.

The one tricky part was adding a 3/4" plywood backing on the inside of the Adzel sofa base. I cut the plywood it to fit in between the aluminum box tube frame,  then affixed the 1/2" aluminum angle and flat bar to the top and bottom for rigidity. Its quite bomb proof now.

The Lagun arm came with white plastic spacers which I chose to put in behind the mounting plate on the Adzel. This allows the sofa to still be lowered into the bed mode.

Hope this might help someone looking for a side table or a new flex space like us.

Happy Camping!!

Paul

That's great!  It looks like just what I need to replace the silly plastic "table" that fits in a sofa arm on our camper. Post a link with the source of that swing arm.

Way to go Scout! Great writeup, great job on this mod. I've had my eye on this Lagun contraption for a couple months now. Now I can sell my wife on it easier - "look honey here's one in a 13, like we have". Thanks for sharing your excellent install and utilization of this gizmo. Kudos on the DIY table too.

PS - Keep your eyes peeled for the drawbridge retracting rear deck we discussed recently - working on that thread right now and would love your feedback.

That is a great idea.  I really like how you solved the bracket backing problem.

We never use the convertable dinette table and just use the bed.  I need to install something like this  :D

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. Have had the trailer out for a few days for the beta test. So far so good. The only thing I might do different is to mount the base plate a bit higher so that I can raise the table height a few inches higher. If the mount was at the top edge of the adzel it would allow me to raise the height to match the counter height at the stove top. Not a huge deal though.

Happy CDN Thanksgiving and Columbus Day everyone.
