A/C not cooling.

We're camping and hooked up to 30 amp service. Every indication is that it is working but the a/c fan isn't pushing cool air. Even seems the fan isn't blowing as hard eifher. Seems the compressor isn't kicking on. Manual says turn it off and wait a few minutes before trying again. Breakers are good. 2017 16TBS. Any thoughts?

Since it's basically a new trailer, there should not be any problems with the A/C unit. Double check the left knob (the one that has A/C High, A/C Low, and Fan Only on it) to make sure that it's pointed towards one of the A/C settings. Sometimes it's hard to determine where it's pointed (sometimes we think we have it pointed to an A/C setting when in fact it's pointed towards the other side of the dial that is just fan only).

We have the same problems figuring out fan from a/c. Poor design on that! A few minutes ago after just having it  on fan for a while all sorts of water ran off the roof and it spit out ice chips inside, lol. Turned it back to a/c and seems to be cooling but not that great. Also fridge isn't very cold. Seems we're freezing up in high humidity conditions?

Yes, it's probably freezing up as you suggest. Not sure what to advise you about that. Maybe some of the other guys will have some ideas. Good luck!

Hmmm.........

Make sure nothing is blocking the air flow, like clogged or misaligned filters and make sure the plastic "tube" that directs air down from the evaporator to the plenum that discharges into the camper is in place. You can see all that when you take the inside cover off to check the filters.

Run the A/C with the roof vents and windows closed so no extra humidity gets in.

I wonder if the campground is experiencing a "brownout" from all the power usage and your A/C compressor and fan are running too slowly to work correctly? Do you have a voltmeter on any of the 120V outlets? Turn off any other 120V stuff and run the fridge on propane.

Is there any chance that leaves/debris are clogging the condenser fins under the cover up on the roof outside? Is the outside fan running ok?

My guess is it's freezing up. When that happens ice forms on the inside (evaporator) coils which will stop cooling and can impede air flow. The fix is to put it on fan only and let it run until it thaws. This can take some time and you'll think the A/C is broken. Freezing is generally caused by running the fan on low and setting the temperature too low. Don't run the fan on low. The amount of noise reduction is minimal compared to the compressor and it will freeze up. Set the temperature control so the compressor cycles. It must cycle to avoid freezing.  That's the first method of attack. If these tips don't work you may have to go further as Merlin suggests.

Our a/c in our 21 BHS has iced up twice when it was set on max for both fan and cool. We turned it off and went someplace else for a couple of hours. Upon our return, it worked fine.

We just ran out a/c for 36 continuous hours. I set the fan and cool settings for just below the max setting and have not had any problems. The fan turns on at the halfway point, then it stops circulating air until just before the max setting.

My a/c is off now, but we will use it later. I am going to pull out the filters and run water to clean them. I am also going to take a Chlorox Wipe and clean around the air intake holes above my head. I  am going to do this right now.

Looks like a smart item to add.   Will this fan works for CL trailers?

Looks like a good one! I think I'll give it try. Likely to be much more reliable than computer fans, which are not made to be outdoors.

As soon as I figure out how, I'll move this to the thread on the fridge being too hot.

Thanks for all the responses! I followed Charliem's advice since I was already working down that path and was able to keep cool. I really need to understand and trust that it works since there are times when the dogs are in there for a few hours and I start to get nervous about a/c failure! Thinking about investing in some sort of temperature monitoring system for this situation.

Mine froze up once, I took off the inside trim work and there wasn't anything that I could see that was wrong. It hasn't happened again, but I generally don't run it on the coldest setting.
