I am ordering a new 2018 16DBS in the next few days and would like to have the clearance and larger tires with the off-road package, but am concerned about 1)stability in windy conditions and, 2) decreased gas mileage due to increased height of trailer.

Can anyone comment on these or any other issues I might experience?
This will be my first travel trailer (and RV).

Thanks,

What will you be towing it with?  I think you will have slightly more wind resistance, about the same stability and slightly worse gas mileage.  Assuming a reasonable tow vehicle it's not a safety question just a choice question.  Is slightly more expensive to tow worth it to you?  And I do believe it would be a small difference,  like going from 13 MPG to 12.5 MPG because of the increased height.

If it ain't broke it probably will be soon.

Double check with LL that the off-road package is available for that model. Their web site specifically excludes the 16DBS and all the 21 foot trailers from the off-road package.

As indicated in my sig, I'll be towing with a '99 Durango, 5.9L (360 c.i.) 4wd.   It's recently been rebuilt (reman'd short block and trans) and is very capable, but lousy on gas mileage.  I'll be lucky to get 10mpg on flat ground.  Have a history of towing a loaded 7 x 14 double axle cargo trailer, so I'm familiar with the mileage.   Just unsure how whether a 3 inch increase in height is something that could be detected in gas consumption.

I'll be going into east coast state parks, national forests, and some boondocking in the southwest---thus my considering the lift.

They may say that, but there's a 2017 21Bunkhouse model with off-road package on my dealer's lot right now.   And the option  is on the 2018 sales order sheet--with no exemption for the 16 footers.  I'll double check with Camplite on Monday, however.

Possibly they were originally confined only to single axle models, but the 21 footer I've seen is certainly double-axle.

My memory may be faulty on the 21 bunkhouse.  It could be a 16BHB, but it definitely has dual axles.  Looked closely at it.

We have a 16 TBS with the off road package and tow with a F150. We have been out I some strong winds and with sway control we have had no issues.

Thanks for the response.  Are you using a weight distribution hitch and an anti-sway device?  Which brands/models.    I've never used these before, so am pretty ignorant of brands and variations.

Merlin

Look a bit further down in the forum sections. You'll find sections on general towing and on hitches that have lots of current info on WDH use.

No weight distribution needed. Only a sway bar because LL is a light camper.  I did add air bags though.
