We're finally doing a short road trip with the new camper to camp and ride this weekend. Destination - the Quad Cities of Davenport, Moline, E. Moline and Rock Island in Illinois/Iowa on the banks of the Mighty Mississippi. We're camping at Illiniwek State Park on the Illinois side with a back up plan for Clark's Ferry on the Iowa side since Illiniwek is a first come, first served site. Fortunately this is located north of where all the flooding is down river. It's about a 2.5 hour drive and I'm looking forward to maybe having the w/d dialed in better on this trip. We'll need the anti-sway component working with the ~25 mph crosswind we're forecasted to have most of the way.

On the agenda besides camping will be mountain biking at some of the many QC trails built and maintained by our friends at QC Friends of Off Road Cycling. A drinking club with a biking habit. My kind of peeps! So that means we will probably hit a couple of the local breweries on our way back from the trails - Bent River, Front Street and whatever new has popped up since we were last there. One of the trails we'll ride is just across the highway from the campground with gorgeous overlooks of the river.

Additionally friends tell us that there is going to be a bluegrass band performing in the park on Saturday night. Darn! That won't be any fun at all....

Anyone else getting out this weekend? Where are you going? Happy trails to all!

We're going to that movie with the talking raccoon, then maybe kayak shopping. But next weekend taking 4 days for camping and fishing at Detroit Lake, OR.

We are headed out shortly for a week's adventure bird-watching up the Lake Huron shore. The last freezing night of the spring will hopefully be this coming Monday, so I can de-winterize the water system and apply Pinstriper's philosophy for leak checking. I'm installing the brake controller in the new TV this evening as soon as I get off this computer. Done.

There is a really nice COE campground just outside of East Moline, Fisherman's Corner. It is at the locks and you can watch the river traffic go through the locks. Next to the COE, is a county campground which is first come, so here are 2 other places to check out. Quad Cities is a great place to visit. Hope you enjoy your stay!

Unfortunately, my husband has been told that he needs surgery, so we had to cancel the trip we planned in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. Instead, we are camping in the area around Louisville while various doctors run tests and decide what to do.

I second that COE campground. Very nice. I wonder if it's flooded right now, though? It was just at river level and just above the dam.

I hope the surgery goes well and both of you are back traveling again soon.

Why does Leslie never say his name ? She introduced us all to him by name at Ft. Stevens last year, but the Pendleton Whiskey infused haze wiped out most of that night, except for the raccoon acrobatics.

I think it was Paul, or Jack, or Pete. I'm goin' with Pete. He looked like a Pete, and she looked like the kind of girl that would be with a Pete.

Pete it is.

Get well, Pedro !

Cool, peeps are getting out!
Yes to Fisherman's Corner COE campground - we've camped there before. It is a mile or so north of Illiniwek, north of the lock and dam and Illiniwek is south of the L&D. The COE campgrounds take reservations but Illiniwek is first come, first serve. We got one of the last electric sites at 5:00 PM on Friday. The weather was beautiful 60's and only needed a little heat at night. Not flooded. The worst of all the rain has stayed mostly south of the QC. We were told that the river at the QC is at one inch over flood stage and so the campgrounds in that area on the Illinois side are all still dry. The dogs enjoyed swimming to retrieve driftwood and chasing frisbees. We enjoyed the primo mountain bike trails, the bonus musical entertainment and even better - catching up with good friends.

Can't wait to do it again in a couple weeks at Brown County State Park in Indiana. Another prime mountain bike destination.
Happy trails!

I haven't used his name because he doesn't participate on this board. From time to time, I read to him what people are saying, and occasionally relay his comments. He and I are both looking forward to the meetup in Maine, and everybody there will be introduced to him.

He really enjoyed the mini-rally at Fort Stevens, and he enjoyed meeting Mrs. Pin. I remember her first name, but she doesn't participate on this board, either...

Thank you for the moral support. There are more medical tests coming this week. I will post when he has his surgery - in the off-topic category.
