Camplite and Bearcat Modifications / Fridge cooling
July 18, 2019, 10:57:38 AM
I know hot weather cooling of the fridge can be difficult so I've modded an upper vent panel to include a fan and a thermostat.  I'm hopeful that when the back of the fridge cabinet gets hot the additional airflow will cool it enough to allow better heat transfer though the outer coils. For power I'm running it to a portable battery box I use but there is an easy tap in to 12 volts right at the base of the fridge.  From a parts perspective this thing is pretty cheap to build, a Dometic vent panel for $25 (don't want the fan stuff on while traveling), a thermostat controller for $7 and the weatherproof box for the thermostat $22.  If anyone is interested I'll link the parts on Amazon.

Other Brands of Aluminum Camper / Intech Sol

Looks pretty nice. One thing I noticed in the specs, 30 gal black tank, 28 gal fresh water, no mention of gray tank. Wonder if they combined black and gray.

Edit: per Intech black and gray are combined.

How long until it's a mess
#5
A few weeks ago I installed a Victron BM-700 battery monitor so that I could really get a handle on my power draw while boondocking.  Today I fired up the fridge to see what the draw of the control panel actually is when on propane. My assumption until now, based on conventional wisdom, has been that the fridge control panel consumes .5 amps per hour. In fact the meter says it's only .1 amps per hour which is a huge difference over time. If that's truly the case then I'm going from the fridge using 12 amp hours per day to less than 3 which would be spectacular.  Is anyone else seeing the same results in their monitoring?

Camplite and Bearcat Modifications / Cutting Azdel
April 18, 2018, 10:50:29 PM
I'm probably going to mount the display unit for my Drok battery monitor in the lower kitchen cabinet so I was thinking about how best to cut a hole in the Azdel.  Any thoughts or tips?  Thanks

Here's a fact folks may or may not be interested in:  My 5cf 3 way Dometic fridge, on electric mode, at the coldest setting, turned on for a day and a half now is showing a freezer temp of 2 degrees and a fridge temp of 33. The outside air temp is 68 and it's overcast so definitely no sun shining on the camper.  Feel free to return to your regular internet surfing day now.

What's everybody using for group 24 or 27 deep cycle batteries these days?  It's about time for me to buy a new one and I'm not going down the golf cart battery path right now. Going to stick with a single 12v probably group 24 although I'd go to 27 if it would fit in my current battery configuration which limits me to about 11 1/2 inches.

Anyone ever had issues with the plug on the side mounted Frigidaire AC units popping?  Out of nowhere my plug breaker (the one physically on the plug not the outlet) will not stay set.  As soon as I plug it in it pops regardless of whether the unit is turned on or not.  The unit has run for less than 30 minutes so I doubt it's the unit, I've removed covers and wires look fine.  A multimeter test seems to indicate everything is normal.  I'd guess the breaker part of the plug has gone bad but is there any way to check that?  Thanks
