Hi Bill -- Your lighthouse pic reminds me of when I was an architecture student, part of a work-term job required me & a co-worker to do measured drawings of a abandoned stone lighthouse on Lake Heron. It might not have been as big as the one in your picture but I remember it as huge. The hard part was that railing that was the equivalent to what we see in your picture was so rusted & broken that it could not be used. I had to go out on the walkway on my belly -- the crumbling ledge covered in years of accumulated birdshit -- while my co-worker inside held my ankles. I did that so I could reach over the edge to drop a tape measure down to the ground to measure how tall it was. That was tough. (Over the years since I've occasionally had nightmares where I'm hopelessly trapped in precariously high locations - so maybe the lighthouse experience deeply affected me??). The ledge was bad -- but so was the old iron spiral stair inside that was in a ridiculously unsafe condition but we were still expected to climb it. Later the lighthouse was restored so future generations can enjoy. I suppose I can take some satisfaction that our survey may have helped make it possible to do the restoration that saved some of our heritage.

I just found this info on the lighthouse I measured. It apparently cost $2,322,000 to restore so you might imagine the bad shape it was in!

Here's a question about Yellowstone ----> Do places like what is pictured stink? Beautiful but gut-wrenchingly awful smelling?

Has a strong sulfur smell. Boiling water from thermal activity!

What incredible photos all of you have shared here!  You're not using mere phone cameras, are you?  They really are impressive, though we feel somewhat embarrassed of our amateurish pics...oh well!

Thanks for sharing these, really!

Thanks, photos taken so far with Canon point & shoot. Don't have a smart phone, yet. Use the SD card from camera to upload photos with a laptop & hotspot combo when traveling.

These outhouse pics were taken in Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland, Canada. It was at an isolated old fishing camp on the coast. The closest land beyond the horizon is Labrador. The camp wasn't for recreational fishing. Instead, a family would move there every summer to be closer to their fishing grounds where they'd jig cod. On shore they'd salt & dry the cod until they had a ton or so they could sell to support themselves through the winter back in town. As you can tell from the braces, it is a windy place!  Also notice the trees -- it is so windy the trees are stunted & twisted up like natural bonsai trees. Those trees are fully grown yet are only five or six feet high.

Sometimes you don't have to go far to find beauty. This picture of apple blossoms was taken in my side yard here in Prince Edward Island.
