Anyone else with a 21bhs and want to talk mods, let me know.

GleamB

Everyone likes to talk about mods !!

I just got done installing a rear camera on the back of our 21 RBS. Also installed a backup camera to help with the hitch.

My next project involves transporting our Barker honey pot. Then I will relocate the drain on the fresh water tank and bring it out to the side where it belongs. Whoever thought it was a good idea to crawl under the trailer, especially on wet ground, to empty the tank wasn't thinking clearly.

I had installed a Swagman 64663 bike rack on a beefed up bumper. When I priced out bike covers for our trip, I wasn't impressed with the high cost and flimsy construction that I found. I had just purchased a new cover for my grill on Amazon called Garden Home Heavy Duty 72" for under $30 and thought it might make a great bike cover. These are REALLY WELL MADE covers for a very fair price. I put it over our two bikes and it will work out perfectly. I ordered a second cover, and will probably add some grommets to help secure it from the wind.

Now that it is so easy to attach pictures on this site, I will post some of the previous upgrades I have done to our "Palace", including building a custom made stack of drawers under the stove; installing a bigger, deeper SS sink and new faucet with custom made oak cutting board insert for the sink; a pullout drawer system in the basement ( I'm VERY proud of this project ) and a sewer hose storage that others have also built using 5" PVC fence post and gutter.

Can't wait to start our trip to Maine.....two months of relaxing and eating LOTS of lobstah.....and cod !!!

Happy Trails......

I too added a back up camera to my TT, and just added cabinet lights under the sink (pictures in different thread). I'm always looking for other mods and would love to replace the step with something more useful. Oh, and replaced the sink also. New one is much better and I'm also looking to replace the tap at the point of I replaced the shower head.

How did you wire the camera on the trailer, was it through the hitch wiring or did you create your own connection?

Chappy133

I used a wireless camera. I hid the antenna in the bathroom by zip tie to the black tank vent pipe.

I bought my cameras on ebay. You see them all the time. VERY reasonably priced. I was a little skeptical at first, but they arrived fine. My buddy and I installed the hard wire in the Suburban. It was a pretty big project. I wanted to add a disconnect at the rear bumper for the trailer. First camera was installed for the hitch connection.....or as we like to call it, the " marriage saver " !!!!
Then I installed the camera on the trailer. Put it high, near the lights. Worked the wire across the top of the back wall ( the trim comes off easily ) and tied it many places as I routed it down through the outside storage bay, bath lower cabinets, found a penetration to share to go under the trailer, and zip tied it easily up to the tongue.
I chose hard wire because I had read concerns about wireless. I LOVE  driving with the rear camera on.!! It made my $100 mirror extensions almost useless. I can not only see behind me, but I can see BOTH sides of me. Makes passing a piece of cake. Also, you can see what's going on around you and can be prepared for traffic flow issues. I recommend this install to EVERYONE. Go do it, or have it installed. It is money VERY WELL SPENT!!!
Happy Trails......

I just looked on ebay under " back up camera "and something similar showed up. They seemed to be even less expensive than what I remember. Sorry, just don't have that info.

Like GleamB, I used a wired system for the many advantages.  I too, added a backup camera to the tow vehicle since it would be easier to do while running the trailer wires.  Make sure whatever you buy, it can stand up to continuous duty.  Many cheap backup cameras are only meant for momentary use. It was time consuming, but not that hard except for a large hole for cabling through the firewall properly sealed. Night and day difference having that camera back there.  This is the one I used:

That's the system I am looking to buy.  Do you mind sharing how you ran your cable from the trailer to the TV?  The Camera gets power from the TV correct?  are you able to put the monitor on a quick connect inside the TV?  I don't really want to leave the monitor hooked up all the time.

GoElectric

Correct, camera gets power from the TV.  I ran my cable bundle on top of the frame rail on the driver's side so it was hidden and protected and I strapped it to the large factory bundle of wires that was already there.  The instructions that came with the camera was not very detailed, but one helpful part was advising laying it all out before installing. I used small wire ties and laced it all together, including a trigger wire from the backup light.  All extra slack was wrapped in a loop and hidden under the dashboard.  I have a large dual cup holder that folds out of the dash on my TV and sacrificed the passenger side of it to mount the monitor permanently since our TV is not our primary vehicle.   Location worked out nice because it is low and not that easily seen and has no glare.  It has three inputs, so when backing up the trailer you have to select the trailer camera because it defaults to the backup camera.  I have to manually turn it off when we don't need it, since it comes on with the ignition.  Will try to post some pictures later.  The trailer was much easier to run, just fed through the floor tracks over the side to side bracing, underneath the trailer using the self adhesive tie wrap squares to hold it to the side of the frame and bundled the slack toward the front.

TV pics.  It came with a nice heavy duty coiled disconnect cable that goes between TV and trailer.  I mounted the TV connector to the side of the factory 7 way connector.
