Coleman Polar Mach Air Conditioner Problem

During our trip out west, started having problems with the Coleman Polar Mach 13,500BTU air conditioner.

Going to attempt to repair the AC unit since we are back home.  The blower wheel item 9 is contacting the blower scroll (housing) item 16 making noise.

Nice exploded diagram of the "guts". Hopefully just a screw loose (in the AC unit, not in you). Or maybe just a good vacuuming of the blower wheel. I've found a toothbrush works well for loosening the dust/dirt on the blower wheel, but use your wife's and not yours, it can be messy.

Had to be sure I did not have any loose nuts, first.  :)  Will work on it next week & post photos/report.

Found item #9, blower wheel clamp was a little loose clamping the blower to item #3, blower motor shaft. The blower slid down about 1/4" rubbing item #16, scroll housing.

Re-positioned & secured blower on motor shaft:



Also found where tab screw securing AC cover, item 25, contacted metal roof because Styrofoam used in the gasket package, item 11, compressed combined with slight downward bow of the bottom pan, item 15, allowing contact. Used two pieces of rubber heater hose to shim & re-position pan back up to prevent future contact with roof. Will also inspect complete gasket package and tightness of unit mounting bolts.



The noise is gone and AC cooling great. Have about 20,000 miles on this travel trailer.

Removed interior air conditioner Ceiling Assembly today to inspect four bolts securing the air conditioning unit to the roof installed from inside the camper:

Found one of the four bolts broken and the rest were loose:

We travel 99% of the time on paved roads with around 20,000 miles on this CampLite. Had to go on a 10 mile dirt road detour once in Montana, that was rough. Drove very slow, but possible the bolt broke during the detour. Started hearing the AC blower noise about 1000 miles before the rough detour. Found the broken bolt after seeing where the bottom of the AC unit contacted the roof, previous post.

Will purchase & install 4 new bolts. The complete AC unit had shifted about 1/2" against the bolt probably breaking it. Hopefully installing & securing 4 new bolts will prevent contact of the bottom of the unit with the roof seen in previous post, will see.

Found four 1/4"X4 1/2" grade 5 all thread hex bolts. Installed them and found the rear of the AC unit still barely contacting the roof. Took
a piece of 1/2" rubber automotive heater hose and split one side, sliding the 1/8" thick 2"X5" piece of rubber under the rear of the AC
unit to prevent contact of the bottom of the AC with the roof. When I tightened the four bolts securing the AC unit, the bottom of the AC
compressed the rubber against the roof, too.
