A City Water Quick Connect Odyssey

I thought it would be simple. Unscrew the external side from the internal one-way valve of my 14DB's city water connection and replace the female hose end with a quick connect. If only! I finally had to use a Dremel grinder to cut off the hose fitting and the washer behind it, to remove the unit. With the part out, I looked in vain for a telltale seam where the manufacturer must have press fitted the inner and outer components together through the plastic housing hole. I remain mystified.

OK then—there ought to be an after market one-way valve attached to a female quick disconnect. Wrong again, at least in Google land.

See images for what I cobbled together with a female 5/8" hose end, the old one-way valve and some tubing. Note: (1) I used a quick connect with male thread (2) a typical water hose quick connect seems to be a 1/2" size, but its dust plug is actually 3/4" in diameter. GK

Sympathize with the conflicts, but your description gave me a good laugh GK! "I remain mystified" LOL

Anyways, nice fix! A quick connect for water is on my "to do" list in the near future.

I used the door model from Rvh20.com. It worked as advertised, and I'd recommend to anyone.

Methinks Rvh20 uses the male end of a quick connect to screw into the existing female hose fitting. For some reason I was determined to install a female quick connect end. Not the wisest move.
Eh bien, as Hercule Poirot would often say. GK

I have to ask the stupid question, if you were changing the connector in a standard connector assembly, the one with both the city water connection and the water fill port for the tank, how did you remove the existing city water connection from the plastic assembly? I blew up a check valve and replace the whole box assembly because I couldn't see how to just swap out the one connector.
If it ain't broke it probably will be soon.

LOL. No stupid questions, MitchB. I looked for some press fit crack indicating how the unit was assembled, but finally gave up and went with my go-to solution for these kinds of things. Took my dremel cutting disk and cut one side off (the hose side). With everything apart, still no idea how they did it! GK

Yes indeed, the Rvh20 uses the male end on the camper and the female end / quick coupler on the hose end!
