Hi!

I got some very thoughtful responses to my member introduction post, and they were trying to let me know that the 6.0 is too small for a family of four. It's just that I'm so stubborn and I really like so much else about the 6.0 (simplicity, size, ease, no wood, could use my existing vehicle, could get it into almost any camping spot).

I read on the archive (I think it was there) that someone modified the jack knife sofa sleeping area by adding a cushion supported by a bucket (can't remember details and didn't see any pictures) so that two adults and two teens could sleep there. Does this ring any bells for anyone?

6.0 owners: in real life camping experiences, would it be possible for a family of four (two adults, two kids under 5') to camp in the 6.0?

Thanks a lot!

I owned one for a few years, I personally think that the j-bed is too small, even for two 5 years olds. Adding anything to the j-bed to make it larger when opened would make getting around in the camper difficult. I would consider the 8.0.

I suggested this option to another member, that I would try and go (with the family) and find one and have it set up and see how it fits.

BTW, I really liked my 6.0. It fits in any site with room to spare and it really is just a tent in a box, no frills, (what attracted me to this model).

Here is the picture of the inside of our 6.0 with sofa bed 1/2 set up. We used plywood for a half bed for our dog to sleep on. You could continue the support bar to the storage box and use plywood to extend the sleeping area and add a custom mattress.  As a parent of grown children I can tell you they will soon out grow that bed. The 8.0 was designed to be towed by a 4 cylinder engine. That all being said when they out grow the 6.0 they could tent next to you too.

So true, I put the kids in tents and we had a TT. ;)

Thanks a lot for responding! The consensus is just about overwhelming and the photo really helped. There just happens to be be an 8.0 on craigslist right now. Hmmmmm.....

Looks like I've got a little more web research and daydreaming to do.

Go for the 8.0 you will have room for the kiddos when they grow.

Yes your question does ring a bell.  I was the original poster of this exact question back when it was the Livin Lite forum.  The thread is still here, you just have to access it on the archive section.  Yes the mod that was mentioned in expanding the bed as said would make it harder to maneuver around, but then again it's just designed pretty much as a tent upgrade.  Just to get you off the ground.   If you are worried about wanting a lot of room, get a 30' camper.   I like the 6.0 because like you said the simplicity.  We don't hang out in our camper except for sleep.  We spend our time camping actually in the great outdoors. We don't stay inside our camper and watch tv like most do.  You could also put a small step stool by the parent bed and access it through the "emergency" escape if your worried about climbing  over kids to get to bed.  Hope this helps

Yes! That's the one. I found it and re-read it. Thanks. I've made contact with someone local on the facebook group who said I could take a look at her 6.0 if the timing works for both of us. I haven't actually seen one yet, I'm still just daydreaming. There is a used 2009 6.0 about 2.5 hours drive away, so I could check that out too. In 2009 the bed folded over the tongue and had the aluminum floor.

I found a nice backpacking tent in the attic from my single camping days and am working on getting my sons excited about sleeping in that one while the adults sleep elsewhere....

Ummm, emergency exit? Is there a tent-style zippered exit in one of the windows by the fold-out bed?

Chappy133

Yep the window by the bed zips open as a "fire exit".

I think I might have posted pictures of an ancillary mattress for a QS 6. It is a vinyl wrapped foam block that sits on a plastic storage bin to extend the length of the fold up couch. It would hold two medium sized kids but not leave much room for a dog. It leaves about a foot wide "hall" to exit. It can easily be made with black vinyl and foam cushion.
