Oil in propane stove burner

Hello everyone,
We are back from a month of camping with the CL.  We had a great time!  We usually try to cook outside as much as possible when camping.  This year we bought a brand new two burner propane stove to replace our very old one.  The stove worked great for many days then a stange bubbling noise was coming from one of the burner.  The next I noticed there was some clear thick oil coming out of the burner when leaning the stove on its side.  There was quite a lot of it the burner.  I drained and cleaned the oil then lit the burner.  Everything worked fine again. Two days later same story.  Lots of oil in the burner again!  Where is that oil coming from??  I used a (new) 6' propane hose extension to feed the stove.  Everything else like the water heater, fridge and propane heater worked great for the entire trip.

Thanks

Paul

That is weird I have a coleman propane stove and this never happened

Paul, do you use a propane extension hose?  I have a feeling the hose might be the problem.

Fat drippings from cooking?  I have a hard time seeing how it came through the propane system.

I do use a hose extension to be able to use a 20 lbs propane tank instead of the small 1lbs

We mostly use the stove to boil water.  Here is what I found on a camping forum.

This oil comes from your rubber hose. The tank has nothing to do with it.
Propane breaks down the rubber in the hose, which releases this oily residue. This problem is documented, and if your guy knew about it he would have told you. Propane specialists are normally aware of this.

I'm not buying the rubber hose causing the problem, unless it is a specific type not meant for propane. I say this because all the propane plumbing in a Camplite and most other manufacturers is rubber-type hose! No problems with oil from any of that! Just saying........

Guys,
Have a look at this video.

OK, I learned something (a very common event!). Looks like the regulator right at the tank is important. Thanks for the video.

Does anyone know of a regulator that can easily be installed between the tank and the hose?

Merlin

How long is the pipe run? Metal an option?

Otherwise, check both rvupgrades.com or etrailer.com for a wide variety of regulators and attachments. For example:

Merlin,
Our hose is 6' long.  It has to be flexible. I would like to find a regulator that can be screwed directly to the tank and then screw the hose to the regulator.  I'll keep searching!

That's very similar to our set-up.  The only difference is the lenght of the hose, ours is much longer.
