Hose types (garden vs. drinking)

We may need to run water temporarily from a spigot about 125' to our Camplite at our new property.

Northern Tool has a good deal on 75' hoses.

I know special hoses are sold for drinking water. Is there any real-life difference in use? I mean, we all drank from garden hoses all the time as kids and we turned out OK.

Well, most of us, anyway!  :o

Ecdie,

The white hoses are certified to be free of bad plastic chemicals. Yes, we all drank from garden hoses and are mostly still alive.
Probably OK, but health hazards from plastic compounds is getting more attention now. The chemicals leach into the water if left standing so if you run the hose a bit before using the water it's probably OK. Run the hose a few minutes, then fill your tank and use from there. If you are away and water stands in the hose you should run it first before consuming.

BTW, I wouldn't buy or use anything from HF. Who knows what you're getting or what the Chinese put in it. Remember baby milk? Fine for grass but not for me.
Any 20 minute job can be stretched to a week with proper planning

Thanks!

I just checked Camping World and their white "drinking water" hoses are fairly inexpensive.

I'm driving by one today, so I'll probably stop in and check them out. 2x50' in conjunction with the one we have should reach.

We got our water meter and temporarily frostproof spigot installed at our property a couple days ago:

Will pretty quickly be getting underground PVC water lines running to spigots in the fenced camping area, so hopefully the long hoses will only be needed for a couple weeks. And they'll probably be handy to have around regardless.

As an aside, also got our "transformer vault" and temp pole installed a few days ago. Should be pretty close to getting power to the site.

We're the first of 6 lots to get developed, so we're the pioneering guinea pigs, so to speak!

So far, everything's been a bit of an ordeal - think "The Money Pit" or "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House". But someday we'll look back on these as minor hiccups. We hope!

And still be careful about heat. 125 feet of hose lying in the sun will get hot water for sure!

Looks like the setup is developing nicely. Thanks for the updates.
