Anyway, bought a piece of aluminum diamondplate and 3M outdoor double-sided tape and after trimming, Viola!



Still a few small scratches above it, but I think we can live with those.

That's a piece of door edge trim covering the top corners, which were sharp enough to be a hazard.

I am considering aluminum pop rivets at the corners to back up the tape.
