How far is Cape Blanco from Ft. Stevens?

My husband and I took our 2 dogs to the PNW LL Rally last summer at Ft. Stevens. We loved the beach and walked there several times. Sweetie (the Shiba Inu X) and I got wet in the surf and had a great time.

Now there is a story in the news about a father and his little boy getting washed out to sea by a giant wave at Cape Blanco. How often does this happen?

Cape Blanco is almost 300 miles south of Ft. Stevens. But this can happen anywhere along the west coast, you really have to keep an eye on the waves and respect the power of the ocean...
