Camplite and Bearcat Modifications / Moving Awning
« on: April 17, 2019, 09:46:12 AM »
Wondering if anyone has tried to move an awning that blocks a window on some model/year camplites?    I have a late 2015 build 2016 model 21rbs that has the awning blocking the front window.

It's interesting that some same year models have the awning in different locations.   I have not measured but at a glance it looks to be the same size awning.

Wondering if the area where the awning mounts up top is reinforced somehow, making moving it somewhat difficult.

I know that you can just release the bottom of the bar and kick it out to open the window, have done that but it annoys me for some reason.  ;)

In prep for an upcoming 3 week trip to FL I decided to put in a room darkening curtain in attempt to help my wife sleep in a little more, since I often wake up 1-2 hours before her.  I think it's going to work out pretty well.

If you have ever wondered what it looks like behind the angled black wire run in many of our campers, here ya go...

Trickiest part was placing the hole for the curtain rod in the right spot in the wire run cover.

We're not done yet.  My wife needs to trim about 8" off the bottom and make some ties to hold them tight against the wall.

But here's about what they'll look like:

The bathroom in our 21RBS was always much warmer than the rest of the trailer due to the solar warmth from the skylight in the shower.

Found this window cover/reflector that fits perfectly and appears to work great.

We ordered a simple weather station for the camper.  Now I need to find a place to install the external sensor that will be out of direct sunlight, secure, and easy to get to to remove/install batteries.  Before I look, I figured I'd ask here in case anyone else has done something similar and experimented with different locations....

Hitches / Andersen vs Equalizer vs etc WDH hitches
« on: August 28, 2018, 08:37:51 AM »
Did a search on WDH and was surprised that nothing came up the the current forum - lots of stuff in the archive.

I'm starting to look for a Weight Distribution Hitch with Sway Control for my Tundra/CL21RBS combo and welcome any pros, cons, comments, etc...

Last WDH hitch / sway control setup I had on a slightly heavier camper behind a suburban 15+ years ago was a real pain. Ball mount, bars and chains weighed a ton, creaked like crazy, could not back up with friction sway control etc...   I've been avoiding putting one on the current setup but decided I want one for the very small percent of time that it gets tad squirrely.

Any updated thoughts?

Was just out by the camper and the Livin Lite website URL jumped out at me.  Kind of meaningless at this point.  Thinking I might remove it.  Maybe replace it with something more entertaining.

Maybe something like...

Maintaining the No-Rot vision crushed by Thor

Any better ideas?

Camplite and Bearcat Modifications / Radiant Floor Heating
« on: June 28, 2018, 07:42:55 AM »
Has anyone been following the radiant floor heat available by Alde?

So far I believe it is only available on a few new units, but would love to see an aftermarket version of this for those who use our cold floor campers all season long.   Not sure how much it would raise the floor height, but I love the concept of combining the hot water heater with a radiant heat system that would be basically silent.

Camping General Discussions / Service/Tech Manuals

Just stumbled across a pile of service/tech manuals for all sorts of components so wanted to share.  Not sure if this is the best location, but here ya go...

Trip Report/Photos / 2 months of camping with the 21RBS
« on: June 09, 2018, 11:38:04 AM »
We've had the new 'leftover' 2016 21RBS for 2 months now and have managed to get 17 nights in (thanks to being self-employed) - actually had to cancel 5 other nights due to work obligations.  So far so good!   The first 3 were just single night stops dry camping in freezing temps on the way home from picking it up in IN.   (Managed to combine the trip with some work in Chicago so that worked out well.)

St Mary's SP OH on the way home from picking it up

Dillion SP OH on the way home from picking it up

Green Brier SP MD on the way home from picking it up

Patapsco Valley SP MD stayed here while working in MD for a few days

Enroute to Pine Grove Furnace SP PA hooked up and ready to go with motorcycle carrier on front of truck

Pine Grove Furnace SP PA fun trip exploring Michaux SF with my little motorcycle

Luray KOA VA extended Memorial Day weekend - usually do state parks but stayed here because it was close to a wedding we were attending

PS: Looking forward to filling in the rest of this map (from other campers) with this camper

Camplite and Bearcat Modifications / MicroAir EasyStart Install
« on: June 02, 2018, 07:41:28 PM »
Received my EasyStart and will be installing it as soon as time permits.  I did not see another thread dedicated to the topic, so I'm starting this thread to capture any collective wisdom on the installation.  If any one has anything to share please do!

Here's a link to the install guide for the Penguin II that many of us have:

Camplite and Bearcat Modifications / Overhead door struts
« on: May 17, 2018, 07:21:49 PM »

Installed gas struts to hold up the heavy wooden overhead doors above the bed in the 2016 CL21RBS.  I know other folks have been able to use lighter weight spring struts with other door types, but those did not work for me.  The 22.5lb gas struts worked great.

Camplite and Bearcat Modifications / Installing a PI EMS-HW30C
« on: April 14, 2018, 01:29:08 PM »
Installed a Progressive Industries EMS-HW30C this morning in my CL21RBS

Decided to put it underneath the convertor and mount the display right below the converter.

Plenty of space below the converter, but keeping the wires out of the way was a pain, and the floor needed to be cleaned up.

Wired it up and tested it with components out prior to actual install.  All was well.

Placed unit on floor with double sided tape - will check occasionally to verify it is holding.

Taped error code chart inside converter door

Happy with the install.

Display panel is low enough that it can be read when needed but the scrolling red display should not be distracting at night (I hope).

Question for late model Tundra owners pulling late model Camplites with the electric jack: Can you put your tailgate down?

If so, what length ballmount/drawbar are you using? Or, what type of WDH setup?

Camplite and Bearcat Travel Trailers / Exterior Slide Storage on 21RBS
« on: March 27, 2018, 07:56:33 AM »

One of the new pictures of the 16 CL21RBS I'm picking up was of the exterior slide storage.  It looks very shallow.  I have not been able to find any pics on the net of anyone using it for anything.

Does anyone know how deep it is, or have any examples of what folks store in there?  Minimally I'm guessing I could install hangers for electrical stuff.  Not sure if it is deep enough for a fresh water hose.

I tried searching for this in a number of places but came up dry.

Can anyone point me to pics of drawers or general access to the under bed storage of the queen bed on the 21RBS or 21BHS.  I tend to get up much earlier than my wife and it would be nice not to have to lift her and the bed to access anything needed below. ;)

It seems that it would be fairly easy to add drawers or just access to slide out a basket, suitcase, etc...
