Title: Front Window Upgrade?
Post by: GrampaKilt on August 12, 2018, 03:22:55 PM
My CL doesn't let in enough light IMO. Has anyone in LL land ever considered adding or installed a window in the front radius? Attached are 2 pics from other TTs that have incorporated a curved European window. (The brand that LL used before the dark times...) Pros/cons of the idea? GK

I like it very much.

But buying a one off curved window assembly and retrofitting it to a LL will be very expensive. On our 16TBS it would require removing the center overhead cabinet which I really wouldn't miss. It would also require adding aluminum framing to frame out the window.

Even if it were a production item (and we know that isn't going to happen) it would still cost a bunch.

But it would open up the looks of the trailer, both inside and out.

I think it's a great idea.I removed my bunk above and can't believe the difference that made alone....I hope someone has the drive to be the first to attempt it because I'm a bit of a chicken but I think it would big and cool change.

Heat gain, weaker structural integrity, leaks, road debris damage, poor insulation, lack of privacy, and high cost are all considerations. How about increasing the size of the 2 front side windows instead? Or maybe a skylight? Or just better lighting? Or mirrors on the inside walls up front to bounce light around?

As usual Merlin nailed it!

LEAKS and loss of structural integrity would be my concerns.

Want more light? add LEDs theyb don't leak.

Enjoyed all the responses. I wonder if Merlin really meant that mirrors should be mounted on the ceiling ;)

In the quest to take the best TT ideas and incorporate them into my 14DB, I've decided to go ahead with the front window project. Besides, I don't want to disappoint John and maybe, I can add yet another mod for Gary M to take on...

A 36"W x 22"H euro style window that matches the front radius has been sourced and it is a stock item. In one of those early mornings when the ol' brain still functions, I thought of a way to horizontally brace (and disguise it) the 2 ribs that will be left floating after cutting the opening.

The only obstacle still remaining was my LSW. She must be going soft...I had a list of excellent reasons ready to argue my case, but after a long sigh, all I heard was "Finish the basement first".
I deserved that. Thus, it will be a few months before I can report back on what it's like to see the light of day and the stars at night though the front curvature of our CL. GK

I am really curious to see how things go with it! Be sure to post plenty of pictures!
