Title: I'm glad that I bought an awning--
Post by: whitecastleman on July 08, 2015, 10:44:24 AM
I finally bought a zip-on awning for my QS 6.0 and have used it twice so far.  Boy, was I glad that I had it!  Each camping trip involved strong thunderstorms.  The awning did a great job of keeping the rain off my door and the large window next to the door.  I was able to keep the window unzipped even during the rain.  The awning poles held up with no problem even during the strong wind.  There was a large trailer next to me and he left his awning extended during the storm.  His awning  ended up being bent slightly due to the wind.  Mine was fine.  I was also glad that not a single drop of rain got inside my camper during both storms.

Your awning performed great keeping everything dry. Sounds like it performs well during windy conditions, too!

Whitecastleman -- Can you share what brand & model of awning you bought?

The awning was the one that is available directly from LivinLite.  Because of some issues dealing directly with LL, I ended up buying the awning from the same dealer where I purchased my QS back in 2012.

I like being in our Camplite in the rain. Very relaxing on a sort of primal level knowing you are so close to the rain yet protected from it. Must be an even stronger feeling of bliss when cocooned dry in a Quicksilver while the skies are overflowing. No?

Our last camping trip (third season of camping with the Camplite) was our first to experience thunder & lightening. The angels were bowling big time. Crack - boom - smash! It broke local records for the severity of the lightning storm yet pure joy for me in the small but mighty aluminum box. The stabilizers made connection to ground so I didn't worry. "Bring it on Zeus - I'm not afraid of you!"

If anyone is interested in a like-new QS 8.1 awning, I have one I'd like to sell.  It works great, I just don't use it.

I have an 8.0, but don't know how to set the awning up correctly.  Do you have any pictures of yours set up or any directions or advice?

Thanks!
