Residue from plastic protective cover on aluminum bunks when closed when new. Looks like it was never removed. Can't get it off. Any suggestions?

I've tried to remove similar corrosion and residue from our 8.1. The only thing I've found is abrasive pads like Scotch Brite and aluminum polish, but it loses the mat finish. After a lot of work, it ends up looking like something from an Airstream.
