Traveling to florida soon and want to make sure ac is cooling the best it can. Any suggestions. Is it safe for a 250lber. to get on the roof and clean the ac coils which have probably never been cleaned?

Send one of your kids up to do it. That's why you make them. Or grandkids, as it were.
Failing that, lay down a piece of plywood to help spread the load across multiple framing elements.
I've been on my aluminum roof many times. It's plenty strong enough. The danger is the slipperiness of the metal and of falling off. Removing the A/C cover and vacuuming out the crud is a great idea, but only if you don't fall off. Watch out for wasps under the cover.

Another reason to send a kid up. Maybe a neighbor's kid, even.
You could buy a roll of non slip carpet mat material to add a bit of non slip and some plywood, lay it down next to A/C unit. I've walked on mine and I had no problem at all.
Job done! No problem walking on roof. Got the ac coils cleaned and bought a coil comb to fix any mashed fins on the coils. Worked great got it at O'Reilly Auto. Now packing grease in wheel bearings, nice wash job then ready to go!
How much work is involved in cleaning those coils? Couple hour job? Mine is 4 yrs old and never been cleaned.

On mine, it's 4 large philips screws, lift off cover, vacuum out debris, replace cover, reinstall screws. It takes much longer to get out the ladder and the vacuum than it does to do the cleaning. However, while I'm up there, I fully inspect the roof caulking and all the vents. If I find anything wrong, I fix it and that can take a while.
