Title: Going camping this weekend! Shakedown the new camper.
Post by: mojospeople on February 17, 2017, 12:37:57 AM
60 degrees in February? Check.
New camper sitting in the driveway for 2 months? Check.
Unexpected day off work on Sunday? Check.
Need a local shakedown cruise? Check.
Let's go camping!

So we're mostly loaded up and heading to our nearby park to camp and ride all weekend.
Toying with the idea of de-winterizing knowing I'll have to re-do it afterwards if I do. There's no way we'll make it the next 6 weeks without getting some more winter weather. On the upside, it's predicted to stay above freezing until next weekend so I wouldn't have to hurry. What would you do? I really, really want to test all the systems. But I know I can effectively do that in the driveway later. Sigh.

Where you headed?

Just our local county park - Comlara. It's a nice little park - nice campground, nice little lake, nice little mountain bike trail system built and maintained by the club we belong to. It's only 10 minutes from home so it's a good spot for a trial run.

The word is that trails around here will be dry enough to ride this weekend. If my husband didn't have to work this Sunday we might have headed over to Kickapoo State Park. It's one of our favorite mtb trail systems and I heard they are going to ready to ride too. That is a rarity! Usually this time of year if you can ride it's because the temps are below freezing and we're riding frozen trails in 20 degree weather not dry trails in 60 degree weather!

Well, it was a lovely weekend of camping....in February!
I de-winterized and filled our water tank before leaving home so we got to run through our water systems. Good thing too....we have a leak coming from the shower somewhere. I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow. The only other problem we found is that 2 of the 4 speakers weren't working.

Here are a couple teaser pictures.

I'm so glad you got out, MJ. I stumbled on this after the fact. I was going to point out with your courage, you would realize that having to winterize again was just another excuse to practice, anyway !

Is Mojo the red dog ? He looks sweet !

Yes, local trips are tailor made for early trips and shakedowns. Take advantage now, so any repairs and learnings are behind you when camping season comes.
