Title: Andersen hitch
Post by: Popup2012 on January 21, 2017, 01:02:25 AM
If you  have the Andersen hitch on a fairly new F-150, do you have the 4 or 8 inch drop/rise.  This is the part that the ball bolts on.

F-150s come in a myriad of suspension and tire configurations that may affect hitch height. If the top of the receiver tube is above about 18", you'll need the 8 inch drop on the Andersen. That's assuming you don't have the off road package on the 16TBS.  I just got a new tow vehicle and had to order the 8", since my original 4" was too high. Your best bet might be to go to a Ford dealer and measure the hitch height on a F-150 just like you ordered.

Why do you need an Anderson hitch? You sure don't need it for the limited weight distribution that the hitch provides. And an F150 towing a 16TBS doesn't need sway control, particularly with the single axle and higher tongue weight of newer models.

I have a 2014 GMC All Terrain 1500 Sierra, and tow a 2016 TB16.  I towed it 5,000 miles so far without any weight distribution or sway equipment and think it tows fine.  I may add the the extra suspension support (https://www.etrailer.com/Vehicle-Suspension/GMC/Sierra-1500/2014/TGMRCK15S.html?vehicleid=20141012328) since I regularly load one or two motorcycle in the truck bed.

I tow a 13QBB with a F150 and I also tows it without sway control or WDH and have no issue at all.

I have a 2016 16TBS with twin axles (13inch wheels). The Andersen hitch was bought when I towed with a older Tacoma.  I don't know how high the hitch on the F-150 is as it is being built.  The f-150 will have 18 inch wheels with MAX tow package.

If you can't get to a Ford dealer to measure the hitch height, you might want to call Andersen. I'm sure they have a database of tow vehicles with suggested hitch drops because yours is a very common question. The replacement hitch drop portion of the Andersen hitch is $114 on their web site. It would be worth it, it think. If you are already used to the smoothness and comfort of towing with a Andersen hitch, it may be hard to go back.
