Title: Future of this forum
Post by: Paul on December 15, 2015, 11:36:39 AM
Since the other forum upgraded and they now offer the possibility to upload pictures directly on their forum the traffic on this forum drastically dropped. I would like to have opinions from everyone about the future of this forum, is it still needed? Do you still want this forum? RideandFly had an idea of making it an all aluminium camper forum that would include all brand of campers made with aluminium, it would be nice if you could talk more about it Bill. I would like to get your suggestions on how to make this forum useful again or I also want to know if you think it's not needed anymore.

Sean is having great success with http://livinlite-owners.com/ and appreciate the great information available there.

Have not seen much activity here lately, but still believe there is need for an aluminum camper forum.

In addition to Airstream & LivinLite, there are other aluminum campers currently being built, ATC toy haulers, VRV toy haulers,
Bolus Road Chief, ATC motorcycle haulers, ATC car haulers, and all aluminum Adams horse trailers with living quarters, to name a few.
There are many vintage aluminum campers, too.

http://aluminumtoyhauler.com/index.html

http://www.vrvtoyhauler.com/

http://www.bowlusroadchief.com/

http://www.adamtrailers.com/aluminum.html

http://www.gunslingerinteriors.com/home.html

When we purchased a 2010 CampLite 11, we were looking for as close as possible to a total aluminum camper.
The aluminum plank floor is rugged and does not have rotting issues. This camper has exceeded our expectations and
traveled out west on a couple trips from NC so far.

We're thinking about moving up in camper size and possibly buying a toy hauler or having ATC to convert an
aluminum car hauler to a toy hauler set up just how we want it for camping & hauling kayaks, bicycles or motorcycles.

I think you'll see a lot more activity here in the future since LivinLite is shutting down the LivinLite forum and keeping the URL so it can't be restarted...

This link probably won't work for too much longer, but here is the announcement:

Coming over from the other forum - Will post lot-a-stuff later.  Briefly sold my beloved Casita and bought the Livin Lite Dream (2017  21BRS) only to see THOR make me VERY SORE AT THOR! They suck - Now I feel better LOL

I hope to be productive here and see our forum base grow.  We Hope to get involved with the Rally process like we had at Casita.  On the other forum I have started to meet the LL owners and they are GREAT!!!!!  I was a rally organizer on the Casita site helping to host several good annual Florida rallies; now I am here in a larger trailer, and  ready to help all I can.  We come here with 16 years of trailer camping and years of Boy Scout camping under our belts.  Despite the years our passion for Camping is still growing and we are still learning!

DocktorJJ,
My wife (Joy) and I purchased a 21RBS back in October. It is still being built. We are expecting it any day. Anyway, I see you purchased a 2017 RBS too. We also live in sunny Florida. We bought our camper in Atlanta since we couldn't find any dealers in Florida. Did you buy yours in Florida? Also, do you have some issues with Thor we should know about?

Thanks in advance,
Bill

Sorry Pin, not even close
After you came djsamuel, wvabeer, leslie (yep even leslie beat you), fasteddieb, Sean, and out of nowhere a junior member swilky took last...

And it closed with some lame words from the factory rep about no more free advertising from competitors. Anyone ever see ads from Forest River? Last ones I saw were from Ford and some sewer cover guy.

I think the ads were like any other site. Google ads will be different for everyone, its the same reason you start seeing ads everywhere for something you just searched...google knows all

From Sean: At this time only the mobile users and anyone using the original forums.net address will be able to find this site...  Also Mr. Millers post in my opinion was a PR spin but as a company rep I understand where he is coming from. Its still wrong but such is life

Please let us know if there is ever anything interesting there.  I don't really see a need to go back unless I hear some amazing news on this forum.  Um, naw.  That was the worst changeover I've ever seen.  I'll be here and Popupportal.

I'm here and won't ever look back. I assume it will be all sanitized and marketing. Glad the death watch is over for the old one. @charliem has the right idea with posting his great mods and info on this site. I'll find my photos and start that too. Time to go plan camping----load 'em up.

You can now easily find your old post using the new Archived forum. It is a read-only and is meant to be used as a reference on this forum, you can either copy a link from that forum here or copy and paste information. All the pictures are stored separately and can also be used here. You can view both links in the following topic

I'm not planning on signing up there, either.

The official spin machine has begun. The old forum was "not secure", by which they mean not hosted on their servers and subject to "data loss at any time". Errr....cloud much ? It was only subject to loss if you stop paying, which they chose to do.

Well, as I see it, the "new" forum being "more secure" is code for "a safe place for LL marketing messaging" and nothing more.

They now are bragging that they "already posted the owners manuals". Well, if you don't register, you can see the post but not the attachments. Meanwhile, the website has been updated with new downloadable logos for LL and CL, 3 different formats each. But no owners manuals anywhere.

They have a legit beef about the old site serving up google ads. The solution to that was a higher price point on the hosting. One wonders what their TCO is on maintaining their own servers and what they think their level of competency/reliability is going to be.

Yeah, this is all about corporate marketing taking control of the content. There's no other real benefit that couldn't have been accomplished better and cheaper under the old site.

I don't plan on establishing an account over there just to share this view in their suggestions section. Especially to see it sanitized away.
