Title: FB Livin Lite Owners Group
Post by: Powder Hounds on November 28, 2021, 09:34:29 PM
Poor guy on the Facebook site has suffered a total frame failure. He has a new trailer that had that frame notification and required additional modifications. He and others are very fortunate that nothing happened on the highway. If you have a new LL model it is in your best interest to look at what happened and check your frame.

@Powder Hounds (https://aluminumcamperforum.com/index.php?action=profile;u=286) , I'm not on Facebook. Do you have any way to post the info here?

I saw that post, scary on a whole new level.

I make it a point to check my frame a couple of times a year, and last year actually took my 2014 - 21RBS in to have a few small cracks (near the wheels) touched up. For sure the tongue rails and welds are checked on a per use basis (just part of the pre-trip walk around).

And yes, I do use a WD hitch.

Hey Gibby! Designer Coach Works did my frame welding and gusset install, perfect. They are beside the Hitch Shop in the NE. Anything RV, they are the best.

Sorry Merlin, had a friend show me the FB post yesterday afternoon.

Ok. If you ever run across it somewhere, post it. I was not able to find it with a general internet search. I'd like to see what went wrong.

Thanks for the info, I was wondering what you did with yours when that happened.

I went to the Welding Shop, no gussets, but if it happens again I will be doing that for sure.

PS, we still have to try to get together for a weekend camp out at some time.

Here is what he said about the repair

so the welder basically used a grinder to cut through the plate covering the tubes and then welded the tubes together (except for the top which he had no access). He then welded the cover plate back together and grinded it smooth. He also added a little gusset on the bottom to help with the transition from the smaller tube to the larger tube.

I can't believe how they changed the design of that frame just to save a few bucks.  The design on my 2013 21BHS is so different.
