Title: Data Snapshot: Recreational Vehicle Fires (2016-2018)
Post by: Chappy133 on January 07, 2021, 06:52:19 PM
Interesting read here: https://www.usfa.fema.gov/data/statistics/reports/snapshot-rv-fires.html   (https://www.usfa.fema.gov/data/statistics/reports/snapshot-rv-fires.html)

"In 37% of the RV fires, the cause of ignition was unintentional actions, followed by failure of equipment or heat source (15%). Exposures and intentional actions caused an additional 6% and 4% of the RV fires, respectively, while acts of nature resulted in less than 1% of the fires. The cause of ignition was undetermined after the investigation in 24% of the RV fires and was still under investigation in 13% of the fires. Source: NFIRS 5.0."

Thanks for posting. So about one out of every 7 fires are the result of equipment failure or heat source. Hmm..........I need to up my game on routine inspections.

Merlin,

This stat: Areas of fire origin-Engine area, running gear, wheel area 28.0%.  For us who tow this means grease your bearings.

Do they have it filtered by RV type, so we can look into what is of interest just for trailers ?

Engines and gas tanks and transmissions, alternators etc. skew things a bit, I would reckon.

It is filtered by towed and self powered. It is only two pages so I encourage you to look at it. The pdf link is better.
