Title: Want to replace the Dometic AC on my 11FK
Post by: zonzin on October 05, 2019, 09:47:48 PM
It's big, overspecd, can't be powered by my 2000 watt genni. I want to replace it with a Coleman Mach 8 Plus - Cub. It will run on my genni and will put out 9200 BTU which should cool the 11fK just fine. It is also much lower profile for aerodynamics and tree clearance.
Has anyone done such a project?

I had that 9200 btu unit when I had my 13QBB but it came with it. Not sure how much work it is to replace. It's probably not too hard?

I removed and reinstalled my Coleman Mach 8 9200 btu A/C unit 2 years ago to replace the roof seal and add some sound insulation. It was an easy task mechanically and electrically, but did require heavy lifting on the roof. The 14X14 roof opening is standard for A/C and vents. Total time for me, including getting out the ladder, was probably less than 2 hours. I have no idea about changing to a different unit with respect to the thermostat or AC wire connections. Likely some careful splicing involved.

However, don't do it.  :-\ My single biggest complaint about my camper is the crazy noisy A/C. I installed a quiet kit to reduce the exterior noise (so I didn't feel so bad for my neighbor campers), but the inside is still obnoxiously loud. Maybe it would not be so bad with your camper, but consider yourself warned!
