I have a older Tacoma and am thinking about replacing it with a 2017 F-150 (3.5 engine).  Has anyone else got a new F-150 and what do they think.  I pull a 16 TBS and carry 2 bikes in the bed and 2 kayaks on top.

I think you will be fine with that rig. Our 3.5 liter Pathfinder probably isn't too different in curb weight from the F150 and it pulls our 16TBS just fine. The kayaks on top will cause you to lose a few mpg though. Probably 11-12 at 60 mph.

We have a 2013 F 150 ecoboost.  Pulls our TBS without an issue.  The F 150 is good to tow 7000 + and with our trailer being under 5000 lots of envelope left.

The 2.7 Ecoboost will actually do better towing than the 3.5 naturally aspirated motor will. I'd recommend finding one with that engine. Or if you really want overkill, go for the 3.5 Ecoboost or the 5.0 V8.

I have the 5.0L in my 2014, and it does a great job pulling our BC7X20 toyhauler (around 5500 lbs loaded up).

If I were you I would go with the 3.5L ecoboost or 5.0L V8 it is going to tow more than the regular 3.5L.  I have a 2.7L Ecoboost 2016 and it tows my 13QBB fine, I bought that one because it was the one in the lot that was suiting me the best in term of options and price. But I think next one I'll take a bigger engine just to have the ability to upgrade to a bigger trailer, I regret not taking a bigger engine at the beginning because it is going to be harder for me to upgrade in trailer size than if I had took the bigger one at the beginning

The 2.7 Ecoboost may be a bit better towing than the NA 3.5 motor. But what about the 3.5 liter Ecoboost? More liters means more engine life, plus more torque. It seems to me that this engine is the best compromise between gas mileage, torque and engine life.

But if you want to tow a 21 RBS then i would go for the 5.0 liter V8. Less torque than the 3.5 Ecoboost but for that trailer size and weight, stress on the engine is more important and 5.0 liters can take it.

I totally agree, my assumption based on the original post not specifying Ecoboost was that the OP was looking at an F150 with the base engine and lowest tow rating. The 2.7L is a significant upgrade over that engine. But the 3.5 Ecoboost and 5.0 are both better suited to heavy towing than either of those engines.

I didn't see the "like" button on your post, so I'll do a full reply and say LIKE on your '17 Ford order. But 3 months wait? Wow.

Did you ordered it with towing mirrors? I don't have them on mine and the 13QBB is not really wide enough to block the view but I heard they were really good!

Speaking of not having a "like" button, is there a way we can get one on this forum? That was something that was nice about the old forum.

Popup2012

No I did not order the towing mirrors.  I wanted the BLIS (Blind spot) and you could not get it with them.
