Good time to be in Key West.  :)

I also now have Starlink and am very impressed with the service. I do need to get a pole and wondered about that HF telescoping pole you mentioned. It working out ok?

Well now I'm in full jealousy mode. Seems like a perfect thing to do in Feb-March. Swing by Michigan on your way and pick me up. I'll sleep under the camper, so you'll hardly notice me.

Member Miclite2270 sent me this info about replacing the kitchen window in a Camplite.

Hi there, wanted to give an update on my Livin Lite kitchen window search. The company in England (Caravan Crazy) no longer deals with the US market. They said it was some kind of insurance issue. However, they gave me a link to a Dutch company (Willemsen Caravan & Camper Parts B.V.
Boezemweg 51 2641 KG PIJNACKER

They were very helpful and had the exact original Dometic/Seitz window and were happy to ship to US. About $800 with shipping. Just wanted to pass this along in case you have heard of others who are looking. Feel free to post this (I don't know how) & I'm fine if people want to contact me for info. Thanks

A few questions and ideas......

Consider the odor of handling diesel fuel and kerosene.

Consider the odor of diesel/kerosene exhaust.

Do you camp off-grid with no shorepower?
Do you camp in below 0C?
If you are always plugged in and above freezing, think about fixing the heating and cooling issues at the same time with a heat pump. My RecPro (detailed in other posts) heats and cools quietly and well.

Look at the Valterra thermostatic control fridge fin fan. Mine has worked wonders for years.

Quote from: Miclite2270 on October 30, 2023, 05:37:22 PMHelp! I need a picture of a kitchen window from a 2014 16DB or DBS Camplite trailer. Mine blew off & am working with Caravan crazy in England for a replacement. A pic & the exact measurement of the acrylic pane would be super helpful, as would a pic of the small manufacturers sticker on the upper R-hand corner of the window. Also, if anyone knows the actual RO cutout dimension.
Thank you!

I have photos to email you.

Send me your email via a forum message and I'll get you a couple of photos of mine. I'm sure the 14 and 16 Camplites had the same kitchen window.

Trailer Maintenance / Re: Odd Tire Behavior

I'm now a believer in TPMS for trailer tires. I installed the TireMinder Trailer TPMS that is a solar powered wireless system for both pressure and temperature. For over 5500 miles, I had no worries about the trailer tires through all sorts of conditions, with the readouts right on the dash.

I'm not sure if powder hounds will be on to respond. I can say that all the photos they posted showed repaired cracks as well as the added gussets. Welders can shield things close by if they have access to the joint.

Trip Report/Photos / Re: 2023 Season

We got back home to Michigan last month after our trip west. There were some amazing highlights.

We spent a week on the Oregon coast and one night had a cougar call right next to the camper! That night, I was typing on the laptop in the trip journal and my wife was reading. Just when it get completely dark outside, there was a loud, deep, resonant meow-like sound that went on for 3-4 minutes in the trees just outside our large window. We both said, boy that sounds like a big cat and our dog went crazy. After it stopped, my wife went back to reading and I looked up cougar calls on the Internet. She didn't know I was doing the search and when I played back the cougar mating call, she said: "Listen, there it is again!". We didn't go outside again that night.

We were amazed beyond amazed at the birds using Great Salt Lake as a staging and feeding area for migration. We camped on Antelope Island and were really stunned at the bird life; shorebirds and ducks galore, not to mention the buffalo wandering through the campground.

We had to significantly alter our trip plans due to forest fires and extreme heat. The campground we had planned for a 3 day stay in Redwoods National/State Park was closed by a fire too close by. We did get in a day trip to see the big trees, but it was disappointing to not be able to camp among them in California. The other major change was not wanting to camp in Arches National Park. There are no hookups in the campground and temperatures were in the mid-90sF the 3 days we had planned to be there. So we bailed out and traveled around much further north. We drove through smoke so thick it was fog-like in eastern Washington just before going through the Columbia River Gorge. We also had smoky air most of the time we were in Oregon.

I was able to take a fantastic jet boat trip 40 miles up the Rogue River in southern Oregon. If anyone ever gets into that area, take that trip on Jerry's Rogue Jet's out of Gold Beach and be sure to ask for Kevin as your boat captain :)   You won't ever forget that ride.

I figured 13.1 million revolutions of the engine crankshaft and 52.44 million spark plug firings for the trip. I guess I better go change the oil again.

Camplite and Bearcat Travel Trailers / Re: Camplite window

Last I heard, the original double insulated windows on Camplites are not available, at least at a reasonable cost. Someone might have found one in England but window plus shipping was over $1K. My best suggestion is to measure the opening and start looking at RV window supply sites for a different type. Or go to a RV dealer and have them put on a new one of a different style. It will still be a couple hundred dollars.
Here is one source that others have had some luck with, but not original equipment.

Camping General Discussions / Re: Starlink
September 22, 2023, 10:39:55 PM
Chappy, Based on your notes and observations, I think I'll get into the Starlink system for use at my cabin. The Internet there now comes in via a very wimpy/iffy cell tower that's 12 miles away and blocked by trees. I even had to put up my own 50' tower with a Yagi antenna connected to a booster to get any reception at all.

Anyway, as I understand it from you, the RV Starlink service allows for on/off periods and even with a lower priority the speeds are fine. I have a clear view of the north sky from my cabin and lots of solar power in reserve for operation. We are there for 1-2 weeks at a time during the spring/summer/fall. Do you have any advice on setting up a Starlink system for Internet access (up and down) in a situation like mine?

As an aside, I'm not going to use it for my camper, so far as I know now. I just completed a 5700 mile 16 state trip and with the WeBoost Drive RV booster and both Verizon and AT&T connections available, we always had good Internet access in campgrounds.
