This guy has some good information about what works and what does not.
Check it out.

thanks! good advice.

ok, after doing more research and looking at the pre made kits vs building something, it appears that the Zamp is significantly overpriced. But, knowing nothing about the controllers, how would one know if the controller/battery tender units that come with these kits are decent? And,  on the DIY kit posted earlier, I added up about $300 of parts. What makes that better than something like this:

I like the looks of the Zamp kits for our QS10, and was looking at the 80 watt kit. Expensive but good reviews and seemingly well thought out, quality package. $400-500

Anyone with experience in these little devices? I see there are rechargeable, fuel-less units now too along with the Zippo type units. We are doing some camping in the QS with night temps down to about 40.

I found an Exide marine deep cycle 12v size 24 battery from Tractor Supply Co.

Now, since the thief cut my straps upon stealing the battery, I need to get something. I was doing extra zip ties and even a motorcycle strap in addition to the stock black strap.

...a new tent for our QS10 and store it away. That's really the only thing that will wear out, that is specific to the LL QS.  At the rate things are are changing, I worry that the dimensions or specs might change to a point where the tent canvas assembly might be difficult to get? I'd like to keep this thing another 5-10 years.

yes, I looked at Batteries plus. They're about 30 minutes away./

Thanks for the tip!

Since ours was stolen, we need to get one now. I was thinking(hoping) $100 might do the trick.

What do we need? We use the lights at night, the fans sometimes...that's it. Two to five day trips.

Now, someone has stolen the battery off of the QS10 tongue.  >:(  I suspect the same folks..

I had extra straps on it and those were cut, along with the stock strap. A three year old battery is worth what??

I got the Camp Chef Everest this year, it's been pretty good so far.  Throws a lot of heat but also is pretty good on simmer.  I'm not a big camping cooker type but I'd buy it again.  The one thing I did do was buy a 10 lb (2 1/2 gal) propane tank so that I didn't have to carry a bunch of one pound cylinders.

I wondered if the high BTU burners were sensitive enough to not waste propane.

I have the two burner stove that came with my QS 10.0. It's OK at best. Has no starter and no low setting (the knob has no low flame setting stop) so if you want a simmer, it'll frequently go off causing you to get the matches out. But, I have used it for two years. It's time to get something better. The Camp Chef line looks pretty good. Some of the Coleman products seem to be a bit sketchy, quality wise. Stansport looks good too.
