Trip Report/Photos / East coast trip 2023
August 07, 2023, 01:02:45 PM
Had a great 4 week trip from Florida up to Shenandoah National Park and back.  Our stops on the trip were:

Reid Bingham State Park in Adel, GA (stayed in the park)
Blue Ridge, GA (Blue Ridge KOA)
Asheville, NC (Asheville East KOA)
Shenandoah NAtional Park (Endless Caverns Campground, New Market, VA)
Smoky Mountains National Park (Big Meadow Family Campground, Townsend, TN)
Americus, GA (Americus, KOA)

The first stop was Reid Bingham State Park.  This is an excellent park and their campground is really nice; full hookups and nice facilities.  The park has several nice trails and a nice lake.

The lake is really nice:

The campground is excellent, full hookups and a lot of room:

The trails were also very nice:

From there we headed to Blue Ridge, GA and a really nice KOA campground:

Nice hiking in the Chattahoochie National Forest:

Made a short stop at the Asheville KOA East.  Had a nice lakefront campsite:

We stopped to see the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove.  Very nice and free to tour:

From Asheville, we headed towards Shenandoah National Park.  We camped at Endless Caverns Campground in New Market, VA.  About 35 minutes or so from Shenandoah, but a really nice campground in an amazing setting:

Shenandoah National Park is an amazing place.  There are so many great hikes, we just concentrated on the Big Meadows area for this trip.  Pictures don't do it justice:

After Shenandoah, we headed to Townsend, TN and the Big Smoky Mountains National Park; one of my favorite places to go.  We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground:

The Cades Cove area of the park is always a great place to go:

Here are a couple of other photos from the Smoky Mountains.  I could fill up pages with good views:

From the Smoky Mountains we headed south to Americus, GA and stayed at the Americus KOA.  Nice campground in a location convenient to Andersonville and the National POW Museum and Fort Sumter as well as Plains, GA.  Both places were really good and much more than I expected.

The campground was nice with plenty of room.  They also had two nine hole golf courses as well as disc golf and foot golf courses all available for free to campers.  A couple of ponds for fishing as well.

I'll add more later.

Has anyone replaced the black sealant under the corner moulding running up the four corners of the trailer?  If so, what was your source?  The black sealing material under that moulding on my 2013 21BHS has seen better days.  We are 20 days into a 28 day trip right now and had a minor leakage issue where the water got in around that sealant at the top of the radius on both front corners.  Pretty large gap as the sealant shrunk over time.  I temporarily fixed it with Geocel caulk, but would rather pull the corner moulding and replace the sealant.

Thanks,

Doug

Livin Lite General Discussion / Livin Lite Forum
December 11, 2017, 09:16:58 PM
For those who may at times go to the Livin Lite forum, it was recently revealed by someone that Dan Miller, who was the site admin, is no longer with the company.  Someone spoke with a person at Livin Lite who confirmed that Dan is gone, and nobody from Livin Lite is monitoring the web site; only the Facebook page.  What a wasted effort.

I wanted to start a topic where we could post some important topics carried over from the other site.

Paul, if you have an issue, please feel free to delete.

Just returned from a quick weekend trip to Fort Wilderness.  Had a great time, and the new A/C worked great.  The newer Penguin 2 A/Cs are MUCH quieter and even in 98 degree temperature and exposure to sun, was easily able to keep the camper 72 degrees inside.

We stay at Fort Wilderness a lot, one reason is my wife's discount for working there, but the other big reason is the atmosphere.

We were sitting on the porch at Trails End restaurant having some iced tea, and a banjo player from Hoop De Doo Revue came over, sat down with us and started to play.  You just can't beat that.  Here's a video:

For those of you that have the Dometic Penguin 2 13.5K A/C in their camper; how many fan speeds do you have?  I have always had 1 with a/c and one without.  The other positions never worked.  I assumed that is just how it is.  I just spoke with my RV dealer and the tech said that he has to order a new rotary switch because I am only getting the one fan speed.  He can't even order the switch from Dometic until after July 13th.  So I'm picking up the trailer with working A/C operating as it always did. When the switch comes in, I'll bring it back and wait while the switch is replaced. I always assumed that was how it was supposed to work.  Does anybody else have multiple fan speeds?

Thanks,

Doug

We spent 2 nights at the campground in Highlands Hammock State Park in Sebring, FL.  If our A/C hadn't failed, the trip would have been perfect; but as it was we still had a great time, although we did sweat a lot.

The campground is very nice, but a bit tight.  We had a decent size site, but some are very small and difficult to back in.  We reserved site 120, which is one of the pull through sites.  I would definitely recommend one in that area.

Here is the campground:

There is a nice museum for the Civilian Conservation Corps which built the park during the depression.  The museum was really interesting and the area around the building was very nice:

The trails were not very long, but they were very unique and beautiful.  We walked the loop road, about 3 miles, and took all of the trails off of that road.

The park is a very nice park and well worth a couple of days.  At only $23 a night (over 62 Florida residents $11.50) it is a great value as are the other Florida State Parks.  A person camping near us told us that once you get past mid June, the mosquitoes get awful for the rest of the summer; so plan accordingly.  He said Spring and winter are great times to come.  I would highly recommend this park.
