During the winter the deserts are great choices. We have had good luck with Borrego Springs palm canyon campground. Beautiful desert views, quiet, clean, decent showers. Joshua tree has some wonderful primitive camping. No hook ups, no water, no showers. But...giant boulders, gorgeous sunsets, privacy, intriguing desert landscapes. A national park worthy of a visit.
