Livin Lite General Discussion / Re: Tire replacement

I prefer bias ply trailer tires because they don't follow grooves in the road surface as much as radials do. They don't ride as smoothly, but nobody rides in the trailer anyway. They are also easier to visually confirm adequate air pressure since any sidewall bulge indicates low pressure.

Any news on this?

The aerial photos that I've seen don't look too bad, and they reported on their FB page no structural damage. I'm sure they got a significant storm surge.

When we took the 6.0 to Key West in June, we almost didn't know what to do with all the extra space in the Santa Fe. Not having to be careful about where everything would fit was really nice!

I've been around the Livin' Lite communities for many years now.  I was on the proboard forum and I've been part of the Yahoo! group so long I somehow became an owner of it.

My wife and I bought our 2010 6.0 in June of 2009 and recently bought a 2012 8.1.  The 6.0 will probably be looking for a new owner soon.

If you have a Quicksilver owners manual, the two full-width pictures on the cover of a 6.0 behind a VW Golf and behind a Honda Fit are both our camper.

We used to tow the 6.0 with a 2010 VW Golf TDI that got 29 to 34 MPG while towing, but it was part of the emissions scandal, so it's gone. We're now towing with a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and getting about 20 MPG.

We really enjoy taking our camper out and becoming the talk of the campground. It's fun to sit back and watch everyone come by to see the tiny camper.

The picture below is from Boyd's Key West campground in June of 2017.

I would not get the off-road package for long distance highway travel. The standard road tires are large enough to keep tire RPM reasonable. This past June, we took our 2010 6.0 on a 2,000 mile trip in one week. I've towed it as far as 650 miles in one day at interstate speeds. I've never had any problems with it at all.

Have you found a way to remove the baked on residue that's left behind by the destroyed tonneau cover? I was able to scrape and polish it off of the bare aluminum parts, but I don't know what to do with the painted surfaces.

I just bought a new tent for a 2012 8.1 that I bought after it got quite wet inside while being stored. Top Stitch in Elkhart IN makes the tents. My 8.1 uses an old style tent that LL no longer supplies, so they referred me to Top Stitch for replacement. Active models probably have to be bought from LL, but I'm not sure about that. The old 8.1 tent was $625 + shipping, but I also ordered the awning and dinette cushions. Hopefully I got a little discount, but I don't know.

The tonneau cover is not made by Top Stitch. It had to be ordered from LL through a dealer.

Grease won't fix bearing failure, but it should prevent it.

I'm in the process of bringing back a 2012 8.1 that got very wet inside and stayed that way for a while. After towing it 7.5 hours to get it home, it was still dropping water.
The tent, tonneau, dinette cushions and mattresses were all mildewed and beyond saving.
The camper is completely repairable and will be as good as new when we get done with it. The all aluminum construction definitely works and is worth having!

Get one that has a thermostat control instead of just low, medium and high settings. That way you can find a comfortable temperature and leave it alone.

With the Dexter Easy Lube hubs, put some fresh grease in and you should be good to go.

I'm repairing an 8.1 that sat out in the weather for a couple of years. The toneau and tent were both destroyed. I ordered the tonneau from Livin Lite and the (old style) tent from Top Stitch.

The snaps do not come pre-installed because the snap placement on the campers varies from one to another. Top Stitch included a very nice tool set with the tent. They aren't that bad to install.

Our camper is always stored inside, so it won't get much weather exposure. I don't think there is a material that can be exposed to the weather continually and hold up.
