...to some dude in a truck backed up in our driveway with our Quicksilver hitch hooked to his ball joint, in plain daylight. He had about a minute of stuff to finish before being able to steal the trailer...stab jacks and chains. My wife went bat sh@t crazy, screaming and yelling at this guy. She got his license plate and did dial 911 but didn't get a picture of him. She was sufficiently scary, and we have neighbors in close proximity to hear her screams, that he cranked it back up up and drove off unsuccessful. Pretty close to gone though.. :(
He tells my wife that "his brother bought the trailer and he was picking it up"
I'm not sure I'd have resisted wanting to break both his wrists with my flashlight.

Good thing she came home when she did and good thing she didn't end up in trouble with the thief. A coupler lock might have prevented him from trying to take it. Granted, any lock can eventually be defeated, but if they see a coupler lock they might keep moving on and look for a different trailer.
I keep my rig, (and all previous rigs) in the back yard. I load and hook up and don't pull it out till we're ready to leave

the police said that even with a coupler lock, some thieves have simply hooked up the chains and drove off to a spot where they could work on the locks. So, the cops said to lock the chains together, a coupler lock and then a chain through the mag wheels.... slow 'em down a bit while they draw attention to what is happening and they waste time trying to steal it..

Whats better then a good lock? Good insurance, make sure your rig is properly insured.
I guess I didn't indicate sarcasm in there. We have a major heroin epidemic in Ohio. They literally will steal anything to get their next fix. Our Sheriff, Fire, and EMS services are running non stop with boat loads of Narcan to revive these people. We have to lock everything, use cameras and even if you have footage, catch them red handed, and attempt to prosecute them, the system just lets them out next week. It's not fair to the rest of us who work and pay for the services that these crack heads abuse. Our neighborhood pretty much patrols itself. Our county is 500 square miles. There are 4-5 deputies on patrol on any given shift. Needless to say they are spread pretty thin. Insurance is the answer, but again a sad solution to a huge problem. Some of these people have been caught many times. They have nothing to take and honestly can't be punished. Yes I carry a gun, but I pray that it never is needed. I was just being sarcastic.
We need more open carry States. enough said.

I had extra straps on it and those were cut, along with the stock strap. A three year old battery is worth what??
Sheesh! Probably someone picking it up for his brother who bought just the battery. Time for a locking battery box and locking lug nuts, the tires/wheels may be next. Do you have a place you could set up a trail camera to get a photo of the person?
Wow ! That's not fun! Here the problem we get the most is people check if car doors are unlocked and if they are they steal what's in it. If the door is locked they don't bother. I once forgot to lock my door and they stole my GPS. Just thinking that there is someone in my driveway in my car while I sleep is creepy!
